It's not new, It's not old

Welcome to tekimage. Formerly known as mobile tech blog. My interests lie in mobile phones and photography and 3D and stereo 3d & photography & digital cinema etc etc etc. (the use of multiple "and" are there on purpose because I am trying to inelegantly hint at my excitement)

So I did not want to restrict myself to blogging about just mobile phones. Although I am very interested in mobile imaging  and geo tagging etc. So I will blog about those too.

I have a keen interest in photography. I have been playing with 3D since 1989.  I have been experimenting with stereo 3d and video for the last few years. And of course we have a Red One camera, a lovely green screen etc at work, and those are the things I will be looking into.

I have my own ideas but there are people around work who have shot commercials with the Red so why not bring them in some way. (added after original post) Also there are fabulously creative ex students from the courses I teach that would be great to get their insight into these areas.  Any suggestions, ideas, help is accepted gratefully.

tekimage is a play on words inspired by the great 3D software softimage.  It's a tip of my hat to them.

I still have my personal blog, the dyslexic blogger and please feel free to read it. So welcome again, to a not so old, not so new blog.

The HTC Hero on 3UK (and other musings)

I had the chance of testing the HTC Hero. With the hype about Google's Nexus One (do android phones dream of electric..... ?  hats off to Philip K. Dick, brilliant Sci Fi author) This phone falls into the shadow of the Nexus One. However, having the HTC Hero on the 3UK network is important.  I am glad 3UK has an android phone.  Hopefully they will expand their relationship with HTC and android.

The HTC hero is a lovely phone, it has a responsive touch screen interface, very cool apps available in Marketplace.  Maybe not quite in league with the iPhone with apps but I can see that changing.  If I liked the HTC Hero why did I upgrade to the N86.  I liked the hero but did not fall in love with it. I still don't like virtual keyboards. And if android is behind in apps then nokia has barely entered the race.  However, I do love the N86, it helps me overlook shortcomings of the phone.

One of the coolest aspects of the HTC Hero on 3UK is Spotify.  You pay up front for a Spotify Premium account, and the handset on contract. (You can also get just the handset on contract). Spotify seems like it was made for this handset. The handset multi tasks and the app worked perfectly with the phone.  The other very cool android app was google sky.  If you are a stargazer then you'll love this app. It works with the gps and compass, hold the phone up to the night sky and it will show you the contellations etc of the area of sky you are looking at.

I know tech journalists are focused on the absolute cutting edge mobile technology, however,  I've seen a trend with people I know that just want a mobile phone that they can easily make and receive phone calls on.  Look at something like the INQ mini, lovely phone, easy to use with some social networking on board, and poised to fit this market along with LG and some Nokia phones. I don't have any other research on this other than talking to family and friends. They all know I am mad about mobiles, but I listen to what they are saying. Will I see this trend in the future?

So, 3UK keep up the good work. Keep adopting android phones for the network, and especially HTC phones.  Maybe even Windows mobile 7 will be interesting in the future.

Nokia slashing smart phone lineup via engadget

Nokia slashing smartphone lineup?  Who ever could have suggested that? Well perhaps earlier post What will Nokia do?  it was one of my suggestions.  Thank you engadget for this report?
